Is your desk space in a constant state of disaster? Are there post-it notes and papers piled up everywhere and… where did you put the stapler again? Been there, done that! This is the main reason I chose to invest in completely making over my desk and workspace after years of thinking it wouldn’t really make a difference- boy, was I wrong. If this is you, keep on reading for the top 3 reasons why you should completely make-over your desk & workspace.
1) Your workspace is a COMPLETE MESS.

If you want to minimize the pain points in your work-life, organizing your desk space with an aesthetic setup (not just cleaning your desk up!) is the first place to start. This article from the Harvard Business Review titled, “The Case for Finally Cleaning Your Desk” shares research from Princeton University that reveals what we’ve always known: a disorganized work environment causes physiological stress and drains us of valuable energy which affects our ability to focus.
Imagine, pens, tape, staplers, all in their designated places in an organized and un-cluttered desk drawer. Posts-its and papers no longer strewn all over your desk (and floor) but now replaced by a simple eco-friendly erase wipe board. Your favorite pens, markers and notepads within reach in ONE desktop organizer. With design and order comes peace and with peace comes the health and energy to do good work.
2) You get stressed JUST THINKING about sitting down at your desk to work.

Unfortunately, work life in the modern world is often synonymous with the word “STRESS”. The only way to combat that is to stop working (not an option for most of us) or to combat that stress with anti-stress tactics such as deep breathing. But one step many people don’t think about it to simply make their desk and work-space a physically safe, healing place to just BE. Little changes can add up to make a big impact!
Making-over my desk to be an aesthetic, beautiful place for me to sit down and work really did change my frame of mind. When I think about ‘work’ I have a sense of calm and peace because I’m in a beautiful, calming space. Take it from me, I didn’t think it would make a difference, it 100% does. Having a beautiful, clean, neat and aesthetic desk space allows for the first feelings you have when sitting down at your desk to be peaceful ones.
3) You’re in a RUT and need a CHANGE:
Whether we like it or not, our environments affect us. So when you’re in a rut at work and need a change, an aesthetic desk makeover may be just the thing you need to jumpstart you into a new frame of mind. Yes, it may be an external change, but external changes do affect us internally and sometimes those innocuous, gentle changes are the best ones. Think of it as a budgeted, productive form of ‘retail therapy’ where the new things you’re bringing into your life are useful items that will contribute to your long-term productivity.
